Life in a Compost Bin

I added a big bagful of ripped up cardboard to the compost bin. At this time of the year they tend to only receive green waste and the cardboard is needed as 'brown waste'. When I gave the contents a good mix up I was very pleased to see so many worms.
And there are a lot of woodlice in their too. They're all good for dealing with the waste and turning it into lovely soil after a few months. There were also slugs (of course) and beetles but as soon as I opened the lid the beetles skedaddled.
