Aye Aye Skipper

There are so many butterflies around now that we're in the midst of a heatwave! I'm looking forward to doing the Big Butterfly Count 2013 sometime next week.

This is some sort of skipper butterfly. I'm not sure of the specific variety as there isn't much that distinguishes them.
You can see its tongue, presumably it found a drop of water on this beetroot leaf. It loved the beets today - it spent most of the afternoon moving from leaf to leaf.

The caterpillar eats couch grass amongst other weeds - so it's very welcome on Marsh Lane where couch is still a problem weed.
